Do you have to re-wax your chain after every ride?

It’s a question we often get. Short answer? No, you don’t. But let’s explain properly.

FAQ

In dry conditions: every 500-800km

If you’re riding in dry conditions, you definitely don’t need to rewax after every single ride. Most riders rewax somewhere between 500 and 800 kilometres.

We actually see a lot of customers who rewax around the 500 km mark just to keep things running perfectly smooth, but you can comfortably go further in clean, dry weather.

It’s not about rides. It’s about distance and conditions.

In wet conditions: re-wax when you get home

Rain is a different story. If you come home after a ride and your chain is dripping wet, we always recommend rewaxing. Not because the wax suddenly stopped working, but because water sitting inside your chain isn’t something you want.

The easiest and most effective way to push that moisture out? Hot waxing.

When you drop the chain back into hot wax, the old wax melts, any water gets flushed out, and the chain is fully protected again. There’s honestly no better way to get moisture out of your drivetrain.

Use it for waxing and storing your chain

Hot waxing = cleaning

And here’s something important that many riders still don’t fully realise.

Waxing is cleaning.

When you rewax, the old wax becomes liquid, gets flushed out and is replaced with fresh wax. That means you don’t need to degrease or deep-clean your chain anymore. That’s a massive advantage compared to traditional lubes.

So after a rainy ride, you simply pop the chain into the wax heater for about ten minutes while you’re cleaning your bike. By the time you’re done, your chain is clean, dry and fully protected again.

Simple as that.
