The engineering behind our vibration motor
The Performance Wax Heater uses a mechanical vibrating motor, positioned on the underside of the wax bath. The vibration is uniquely finetuned for hot waxing a chain in the best possible way. It is not ultrasonic. That choice was very intentional.
An ultrasonic system uses high-frequency sound waves to agitate liquid and clean components. It’s very effective, especially in industrial cleaning setups. But it also comes with trade-offs.
One of the biggest drawbacks? Time.
“The vibration is uniquely finetuned and engineered for hot waxing a chain in the best possible way."
The engineering behind our vibration system
If we had chosen ultrasonic technology, the wax bath would take significantly longer to reach the right temperature. You’re looking at heating times of thirty to forty minutes. That simply didn’t align with what we wanted this heater to be.
The whole idea behind the Performance Wax Heater was to create a system that is:
automated
fast
predictable
easy to use
A 30–40 minute heating cycle would defeat that purpose. So we chose a mechanical vibration system instead.
What does the vibrating motor actually do?
Once the wax reaches its ideal temperature, the vibrating motor activates and mechanically shakes the chain inside the bath.
That movement:
helps dislodge fine particles
allows wax to penetrate deeply into the rollers and pins
ensures an even coating
In terms of effectiveness, it delivers around 80–90% of what an ultrasonic system can achieve in this application. But it does so while keeping the entire waxing cycle under ten minutes.
For us, that balance mattered more than chasing marginal gains at the cost of usability.
Why this balance matters
Both ultrasonic and mechanical vibration systems have advantages and drawbacks. Ultrasonic cleaning is powerful, but slow in this context. Mechanical vibration is slightly less aggressive, but dramatically faster.
We chose the solution that delivers almost the same cleaning performance while keeping the system practical for everyday riders.
Because at the end of the day, performance only matters if people actually use the product.
